Downers Grove Police Plan Online Auction of Unclaimed Property

Bikes, golf clubs, scooters and other items recovered by police will be auctioned off on cop-website PropertyRoom.com starting August 22.

Downers Grove police are planning to sell unclaimed property on PropertyRoom.com, an online auction site that sells lost, stolen or forfeited goods for police departments across the country.

The auction is offering “deals for a steal” of mostly unclaimed property recovered by the Downers Grove Police Department. Available are 36 unclaimed bicycles that ended up the police station, along with a Razor brand scooter, miscellaneous golf clubs, a skateboard and a titanium tennis racket made by Wilson.

Items can be perused on the Village of Downers Grove website. Owners recognizing items as belonging to them, should contact property control officer Dru Ingram at 630-434-5637 before August 22. Items will go up for sale on the PropertyRoom website on that date.

PropertyRoom was started by a former police officer and operates similar to eBay, where users bid on items online. Most online bids at PropertyRoom.com start at $1.

Proceeds from sales are split on a sliding fee scale between the online cop auction site and municipalities, with money raised from auctions going back into the community. Over 3,000 police departments contract with PropertyRoom to help sell unclaimed or recovered property.
