Downers Grove Police Warn Residents Of Surge In Car Burglaries
Police are urging residents to lock their cars and keep their valuables out of sight.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- Members of the Downers Grove Police Department are reminding residents to stay vigilant after a rash of car burglaries was reported throughout the village. On Facebook, police Chief Shanon Gillette urged residents to keep their car doors locked at all times and not to leave valuables and keys inside of their vehicles.
According to Downers Grove Police, burglars seem to "prefer" targeting cars that have been left unlocked. Nevertheless, a burglar may break a window to get to valuables inside of the car if they can see them.
If you plan to leave your car unattended, even for a short time, police say to lock the vehicle and stow your valuable items in the trunk.
