Downers Grove South Girls Cross Country Finish 5th at IHSA Sectional

The DGS girls varsity cross country team ran well and finished 5th out of the 18 teams at the IHSA Sectional meet on Saturday.

The top 5 teams all advance on to next week’s State Championship meet in Peoria, so our season continues on for one more week.

Senior, Amanda Thate, led the team again running a season best time of 17:47 while finishing in 9th place. The top-10 finish also earned Amanda all-sectional honors.

Katie Stapleton (So) finished 30th place with a season best time of 18:21.

Jill Boyle was 36th in 18:26 (season PR) and Mary Beine was 43rd in 18:33 (season PR).

Abby Kargol, coming off a mid-season injury, anchored the DGS scoring and secured the trip to State with her 48th place finish in 18:44.

Maggie Seitz and Lizbeth Alcantara rounded out the varsity team finishing in 71st place (19:21) and 87th place (19:53) respectively.

This marks the 4th straight season that we will be competing with the entire varsity team at the State meet. The state championship race will be held Saturday, November 8th, at Detweiller Park in Peoria at 1:00pm.
