Downers Grove Teen Charged With Felony For Threatening Text: Cops
The 16-year-old student allegedly made a threat against another student who he "thought was bullying him," authorities said.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove teen faces felony charges of transmitting threats of violence to a school after he allegedly sent a threatening text to another student. The boy, 16, was taken into custody Thursday and remains in custody, according to DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
The student will remain in custody until his next court date on March 19, DuPage County officials said in a press release.
The teen is accused of sending a threatening text on Monday to a classmate at Downers Grove South who "he thought was bullying him," police say. Authorities say they were told about the text Thursday, which led to the teen's arrest.

The state's attorney's office did not elaborate on the content of the text.

In light of the alleged incident, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "Students have got to understand that making threats to a school or classmate is no joking matter. Considering today’s climate with regards to school safety, anyone suspected of making a threat, even if made in jest, will be fully investigated and held accountable."
