DUI Crash Splits Car, Kills Woman In Downers Grove: Cops
A Westmont man faces felony charges in the wake of the fatal collision.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Westmont man is facing felony charges after a collision in Downers Grove that left a woman dead early Saturday. Onecimo Vazquez-Valazquez, 30 , of the 300 block of Naperville Road has been charged with aggravated DUI causing death and leaving the scene of an accident in the collision that killed his passenger, Annajeane Dewey near the intersection of Fairview and 55th.
Police say Vazquez-Valazquez was driving north on Fairview at a "high rate of speed" when he tried to pass a car and lost control of the vehicle he was driving. Vazquez-Valazquez then struck a tree, which caused the car to split in half and kill Dewey on impact.
Vazquez-Valazquez then allegedly left the scene of the crash and returned shortly after. According to police, Vazquez-Valazquez still had a BAC of .077 more than an hour after the accident.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "I offer my sincerest condolences to Annajeanne’s family and friends as they are now sentenced to their lives without Annajeanne. Her death has left a hole in their lives that can never be filled."
Vazquez-Valazquez is currently being held at DuPage County Jail on $500,000 bond. He is set to appear in court on Nov. 5.
