Elderly Man Pickpocketed At McDonalds In Downers Grove: Cops

Police say the suspects tried to confuse the man and "bumped and brushed up against him" before he noticed the wallet was gone.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police are trying to track down two suspects who pickpocketed an elderly man at a McDonald's in Downers Grove on New Year's Eve. The suspects reportedly began talking to the man and bumped up against him while he waited in line for his food at the 2535 Ogden Ave. location.

The victim told police the two men approached him after he used his debit card to complete a food order. He said they complimented him about how he was doing well for his age. The suspects were reportedly "bumping and brushing up against" the victim during this exchange.

He later realized his wallet was missing, but was unable to find it in the restaurant. The wallet reportedly contained the man's drivers license, credit cards, and at least $200 cash.

During an investigation, police interviewed the McDonald's manager, who said the suspects left the restaurant without their food after they spoke with the victim.

Police reviewed security footage and say the suspects approached the victim at the drink counter after he ordered his food.

The suspects then returned to the order counter and police say one suspect appeared to "intentionally drop an item on the ground." The second suspect then bent down to pick up the item before both men "[looked] around the restaurant" and then exited.

Police described the first suspect as a black male between 40 and 60 years old with "dark skin, heavy build." He was last seen wearing a dark red cap, a black coat with a white shirt, dark pants, and black shoes.

The second suspect was described as a black male between 40 and 60 years old with "dark skin, thin build" wearing a gray hat, dark prescription glasses, a checkered scarf, a long black coat, and dark pants.
