Each year the International day of peace is observed around the world on September21. "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future" is the theme chosen for this year's observance of the International day of peace. Thousands of organizations and hundreds of millions of people worldwide observe this occasion. Anyone anywhere can celebrate International day of peace. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, or just sitting in silent meditation. Or it can involve a huge gathering like the yoga mala event that we are hosting at Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago on September 22, 2012.
Indian and Tibetan "mala" used in meditation practice consisting of 108 sacred prayer beads is symbolic of the prayer for peace, hope and joy we will be sending to the world by practicing 108 Sun Salutations by playing music, singing kirtans and chanting mantras for International day of peace along with thousands of yogis at hundreds of global mala events held across the world. We invite you all to take part in this peace event and make a difference in this world.
