Fake $50 Bill Presented At Panera Bread In Downers Grove
Police say the man tried to use a fake $50 bill to pay for food at Panera Bread and then fled.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police say a man tried to use a counterfeit $50 bill to pay for an order at Panera Bread in Downers Grove. The incident took place on Dec. 18 at 1400 W. Butterfield, according to a police summary.
A manager told police that a man entered the Panera Bread at approximately 1:15 p.m. and presented a $50 bill as payment for his order. The employee then used a marker to check the validity of the bill, which revealed that the $50 bill was counterfeit.
Police say the suspect fled while the employees were attempting to verify the bill.

During an investigation, officers interviewed employees and viewed the restaurant's security footage to get a description of the suspect. The police summary describes the suspect as a black male in his early 20s. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket with a black collar, light-colored pants, and white shoes.
The employees did not see in which direction the offender fled, but police say the incident and counterfeit bill were reported to U.S. Secret Service.
