Lawsuit Filed In 4-Year-Old's Drowning Death
4-year-old Anna Trent drowned in a pool at the Downers Grove Swim & Racquet Club last Father's Day.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- The family of a 4-year-old girl who drowned last Father's Day is filing a lawsuit against Downers Grove Swim & Racquet Club, police said. The child’s mother, Kathryn Trent, filed the wrongful death lawsuit on Monday, asserting that the private pool “breached its duty to use reasonable care and due caution.”
Four lifeguards were stationed at the pool on the night of Anna Trent’s drowning, June 19, 2016. Four-year-old Anna was found face-down in deep water that dropped off from a more shallow “mushroom fountain” pool. The complaint, filed with the 18th Circuit Court of DuPage County alleges that on-duty lifeguards did not take immediate action and that "none of the PRIVATE SWIM CLUB lifeguards or other PRIVATE SWIM CLUB employees initiated CPR" or other proper resuscitation techniques on Anna once her body was removed from the water. Members of the victim’s family administered CPR themselves before the victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Mark McNabola, who represents the family, said they hope the lawsuit will result in better training and greater safety precautions, so that “no other family has to suffer a similar, devastating tragedy.”
