Family Health & Wellness Day at the Recreation Center on Oct. 12

DOWNERS GROVE, IL—The Downers Grove Recreation Center will host a FREE Family Health & Wellness Day on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10am to 2pm. Enjoy hands-on activities and giveaways during this fall health fair featuring dozens of booths providing health and wellness opportunities for the whole family! The event is hosted by the Downers Grove Park District and will be held at the Recreation Center located at 4500 Belmont Rd. in Downers Grove.

Luke Wyss, the Downers Grove Park District’s Fitness Manager at the Recreation Center is helping to coordinate this family-friendly event.

“We are thrilled to offer this open house event for families to learn more and connect with a variety of non-profits, government agencies and local businesses that offer health and wellness services to the community. This free event will provide hands-on—and fun—activities and giveaways for visitors of all ages.”

Each family will receive a complimentary tote to collect all their goodies (while supplies last). Visit 10 vendor booths for a chance to win a drawing each hour featuring complimentary passes and giveaways from the Downers Grove Park District and vendors. Prizes will include a foursome to Downers Grove Golf Club, a $100 Rock ‘n’ Kids gift card, private wellness sessions from WholeHardy Health, a Fun Zone Family Pack, a Zoom teeth whitening certificate from Grove Dental and much more!

4500 Fitness at the Recreation Center will offer free one-day guest passes to all attendees plus a zero enrollment promotion to encourage families to set new fitness goals this fall. Visit with personal trainers to learn more about starting up an exercise program where participants will find information on health and wellness, stay motivated and meet fitness goals.

Kids can play and stay active during the event with self-led activities in the gym including crafts, games and hands-on activities. Rock ‘n’ Kids will offer music and movement activities were kids can dance, sing and play. Stop for a photo op with Marshall from Paw Patrol provided by Fun Zone.

Mini health seminars will engage and educate adult and youth visitors on health-related topics in the multipurpose room during 20- to 30-minute sessions on the hour. During the sessions, visitors can enjoy free healthy snacks provided by Fresh Thyme Farmers Market.

Personal trainers from 4500 Fitness will present fitness and health tips at 10am. The DuPage County Health Department will teach families year-round pool safety at 11am. Katie Hardy, owner of the integrative wellness practice WholeHardy Health, LLC, will present a workshop teaching attendees how to clearly define what they want for their health, why they want it and learn how to achieve their vision of health at 12pm. Dr. Andrew Smith of TRU Health Family Chiropractic will present healthy sleeping habits for the whole family at 1 pm.
