'Fighting Fire' Presents Evolution of Downers Grove Fire Department
The exhibit opening for "Fighting Fire: History of the Downers Grove Fire Department" takes place Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Ever wondered what life was like as a volunteer fireman? How about a volunteer fireman in 1898? A new exhibit at Downers Grove Museum will reveal how Downers Grove residents have tackled fires from the inception of the town’s fire department to today.
The Fighting Fire: History of the Downers Grove Fire Department exhibition will open at the Downers Grove Museum on January 24. The exhibit will feature photos, documents and uniforms from over a century of fire department history. Children will also be able to help paint a DGFD logo on the wall.

The exhibition launches with an opening event on January 24 from 10am-1pm, and will remain open until May 30. The exhibition, which is free to visit, will be open to view during Museum’s Public Tour Hours – 1-6pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 10am-4pm on Saturdays.
Alongside the exhibition, a series of fire-fighting themed programs will also give visitors a chance to discover even more about the fire department’s past. Ashlee Grude, Museum Supervisor, said “this exhibition will give visitors a unique insight into the history of fire fighting in our community, as well as how it’s done today – on the final day of the exhibition visitors will even have the chance to view the fire department’s first ever fire truck with a modern day fire truck”
