Firefighters Battle Blaze at Home on Cumnor Road

55th Street is closed between Fairview and Cass because of the fire.

Update: Aug. 10, 2015

The Downers Grove Fire Department was called about the Cumnor Road house fire at 3:13 p.m. Aug 10. after a patrolling police officer saw smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters found heavy smoke on the top floor of the two-story home, according to the fire department, and flames burst through the windows within minutes.

Crews went inside the home to fight the fire, but they soon had to exit and work to put out the fire from the outside. The fire was extinguished at 3:50 p.m.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, but the structure was compromised and the family isn’t able to move back in. Investigators are still trying to find the cause of the fire.

The Downers Grove Police and Code Enforcement Departments, the Lisle-Woodridge, Westmont and York Center fire departments helped at the scene.

Downers Grove firefighters were called to a house fire in the 5400 block of Cumnor Road.

No injuries were reported from the fire, and the cause is still under investigation, according to the Downers Grove Fire Department.

The homeowner won’t be able to go back into the house tonight.

55th Street is closed between Fairview and Cass because of the fire, and residents were advised to avoid the area, according to the village.
