Ex-Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault Of Student

Jared Wissmiller, 26, of Downers Grove, allegedly sexually assaulted a student when he worked as a teacher in Roselle.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove man —and former high school teacher and coach in Roselle— has been charged with sexual assault. Jared Wissmiller, 26, of the 400 block of Indianapolis Avenue in Downers Grove, reportedly turned himself in to police Wednesday after he was accused of having ā€œinappropriate sexual contact with a studentā€ during his time at Lake Park High School.

DuPage County State's Attorney's Office said the alleged incident took place from June 1, 2016, through September 2016 and led to a subsequent investigation by DuPage County Children’s Center. The investigation reportedly uncovered evidence that led police to charge Wissmiller with six counts of criminal sexual and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of these charges, Wissmiller could face up to 97 years in prison, police said.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said, ā€œI would like to thank the DuPage County Children’s Center, particularly Investigator Cathy Hundley, not only for her work on this case, but for her continued efforts in protecting our children from sexual predators. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Cathy DeLaMar and Jennifer Lindt for their efforts on this case as well.ā€

Wissmiller is set to appear in court before Judge Liam Brennan on June 28, 2017. He is currently being held in DuPage County Jail on $75,000 bond.
