GoFundMe Started After Downers Grove Teen Killed In Crash On Bike
Evan Melau, 15, was riding his bike in the 1500 block of 75th Street Friday when he was struck and killed by a car.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A GoFundMe has been started for the family of Evan Melau, the 15-year-old Downers Grove South student who was killed in a crash in Woodridge while riding his bike Friday. According to police, the teen was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross the street in the 1500 block of 75th Street Friday night.
The GoFundMe, started by Melau's former Nomad basketball coach, Mike Crowley, remembers Melau as an avid basketball player. The GoFundMe reads, "There wasn't a player on any other team we ever played that had the heart, competitive nature, and will to win that he had."
At press time, the GoFundMe has raised more than $18,000 from over 400 donors.

Melau was a student at Downers Grove South High School, who was heading into his sophomore year. In an email to students Saturday, Downers Grove South Principal Ed Schwartz said Melau was an active member of the student body and was involved in football, baseball and basketball at the school.

Schwartz described Melau as "a fantastic young man and a leader with a charismatic charm."
