ID Thief Tries To Buy $60K Car With Downers Grove Resident's Info

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove man realized he was the victim of identity theft when he got a call from a car dealership in Pennsylvania about his interest in a $60,ooo Jeep on Cars.com. The victim, who lives in the 6700 block of Briargate, told police that the salesman had received an application to buy a 2017 Jeep Cherokee SRT with all of his information filled out.

Police say the vigilant salesman got suspicious when the identity thief neglected to ask any questions about the car during a phone call. The suspect also allegedly had difficulty giving additional personal details when pressed for more info.

The salesperson then used Google to track down the identity theft victim's correct phone number. After speaking with the victim, police say the employee did not process the sale.
