Learn Basics Of Beekeeping At Lyman Woods In Downers Grove

See a beehive up close and learn tips on how to cultivate your own from a master beekeeper.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Imagine collecting and jarring your own honey right from a beehive in your backyard. That's as locally sourced as it gets! Residents can observe a beehive learn the ins and outs of beekeeping at an Intro to Beekeeping Course. The event will be hosted by the Downers Grove Park District at Lyman Woods on Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Master Beekeeper Marge Trocki will share info about bee biology and talk about all the tools you need to set up and maintain your own beehive. Residents can peer into an observation hive as Trocki explains how the hive works to produce honey.

The Intro to Beekeeping class is only for people 16 years of age and older. Admission is $20 and you can register online by clicking the link and entering "beekeeping" into the activity search keyword bar.
