Local Students Win Music Scholarships

The American Wind Band will present three talented students with scholarships for further music education. The band will award two 8th graders each $900 scholarships and one high school student a $1,300 scholarship for private music instruction or summer music camp. Qualified applicants competed for the scholarships on Saturday, March 28.

Brian Perillo, an 8th grader from Westmont, will receive the Iovinelli-Capizzi Memorial Scholarship, and Lydia Walquist an 8th grader from Lisle, won the Nagursey Memorial Scholarship. Trumpet player Mary Borow of Winfield will receive the Kowalski Memorial Scholarship.

The students will perform and receive their awards at the band’s next concert on Sunday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m. in the Hinsdale South High School Auditorium, 7401 Clarendon Hills Road, in Darien. The concert is free and open to the public. Audience members should enter the school through door 8.
