DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Chicago man is being held on $150,000 bond after police say he stole a car from a driveway in Downers Grove Friday.

Christopher Foxworth, 24, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and residential burglary in connection with the incident.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Hickory Trail just before 6 a.m. by a resident who reported a burglary and car theft at their house. According to police, Foxworth and "several unidentified individuals" broke into the garage of a home via an opener that had been inside a car parked in the driveway. Once in the garage, police say the group used a key they found a key inside a 2022 Hyundai Tucson and used it to steal the car.

Police say they later found the Tucson outside of a home in the 15000 block of Oak Street in Dolton. Foxworth was arrested Monday after police say they saw him leaving the home in Dolton. He is accused of trying to flee on foot before he was taken into custody.

“The allegations that a convicted felon who is currently out on bond, entered the attached garage of an innocent family and stole a vehicle are outrageous,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, “In DuPage County, we will not stand for this type of alleged invasion and thanks to the outstanding work of the Downers Grove Police Department, one of the suspects in this case has been arrested and now faces multiple felony charges. As the investigation continues, I have complete confidence that the Downers Grove Police Department’s continued efforts will result in the charging of additional defendants in this case. No one should have to live in fear for their personal safety while in the comfort of their own home. A home is a family’s sanctuary and when crimes such as alleged in this case occur, every household in the community can be shaken to the core, wondering if they are next."

Foxworth is set to be arraigned Sept. 19.
