Man Attacks Mom With Ax On Mother’s Day: Downers Grove Police
John Flick, 57, of Downers Grove reportedly wielded an ax to repeatedly strike his mother in the face and head on Mother's Day.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove man has been charged with attacking his mother with an ax on Mother’s Day. John Flick, 57, struck his 80-year-old mother in the head and face with an ax multiple times, police said.
Police said on May 14, the woman’s daughter arrived at her home and saw lacerations on her face and head. The two women went to a local hospital, where authorities alerted the Downers Grove Police Department of the attack. After an investigation, police tracked down Flick at the home he shared with his mother. Police allege that Flick used an ax to repeatedly hit his mother in the face and head earlier on Mother’s Day.
“Domestic violence can take many forms and is not confined to spousal abuse. The allegations in this case however, are truly sickening," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in a news release. "The very idea that someone would attack another human being with an ax, let alone their own mother, is shocking. I would like to thank the Downers Grove Police Department for their work on this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Nicole Wilkes-English for her efforts in holding Mr. Flick responsible for the severe injuries he allegedly inflicted upon his own mother.”
