Man Becomes Upset When Hotel Housekeeper Sees Him Naked: Police

Man charged with disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia after screaming racial slurs and obscenities at staff, cops say.

A Chicago man became verbally abusive to hotel staff after he claimed that a housekeeper intentionally walked in his room and saw him naked, reports said.

Christopher A. Bandes, 30, of Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of drug equipment.

A hotel employee at Comfort Inn, 3010 Finley Road, told police that around 10:12 a.m. Sept. 5, Bandes came to front desk complaining about the housekeeper seeing him naked, police said.

According to the report, the hotel employee was very apologetic and trying to understand what had occurred, but Bandes continued yelling profanity and calling her racial slurs.

Police said Bandes’ voice kept growing louder, at which time, he reached for the front desk phone without the hotel employee’s permission and slammed the phone down on the counter.

The hotel employee said she started backing away out of fear that Bandes would physically harm her and called police, reports said.

Police said that a night shift employee had checked Bandes in around 5 a.m. and that he appeared intoxicated and staggered into the lobby.

The housekeeper, speaking through a Spanish interpreter, told police that she knocked on Bandes’ door several times before entering his room and that there was no “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, reports said.

She entered the room and headed to the bathroom to clean it, when she heard movement in the bed, as if someone was getting up.

Police said the housekeeper apologized and immediately left the room. As she walked toward her cleaning cart, Bandes walked out wearing pants but no shirt. The housekeeper told police that Bandes was screaming obscenities and started following her, reports said.

According to the officer, the hotel employee and housekeeper were both crying as they described their encounter with Bandes. Two other employees also told police that Bandes allegedly became verbally abusive toward them.

Another guest who was standing in the lobby holding his infant said that Bandes did not give the hotel employee a chance to speak and was “extremely verbally abusive,” reports said.

Police also spoke to Bandes, who allegedly kept repeating the same story about the housekeeper seeing him naked. Asked by the officer if it could have been an innocent mistake, Bandes replied that it had not, police said.

Officers went with Bandes back to his room so he could look for his ID and wallet, which he said was inside his jacket. When they went back outside, Bandes said his ID was in his room, even though he was holding his jacket, reports said.

Bandes was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct. While searching him, police found a pipe with burnt residue and a metal container with a green leafy substance inside his pocket. Police said that his pants, socks and shoes were also wet.

He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. His drivers license had also been revoked, reports said.

Bandes posted bond and was released.
