Cell Phone Thief Runs Over Victim In Batavia: Cops

Police say the suspect walked away with the victim's phone before hitting and driving over them.

BATAVIA, IL — A man is in custody after police say he hit and then drove over a pedestrian he had been intending to rob in Batavia. Police say the incident took place Saturday afternoon, Kane County Chronicle reports.

According to police, the suspect initially walked up while the victim was in their car and asked to borrow a cellphone. The victim gave the suspect their phone and the suspect started to walk away, police say.

The victim then ran after the suspect, who got into an orange Honda Fit that was parked nearby.

Police say the suspect then used their car to hit and then run over the victim. When police arrived at the scene, they say the suspect resisted arrest.

The suspect and the person he allegedly ran over were both taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
