Man Wakes Up To Find Thief Stealing Car: Downers Grove Police

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove man woke up to find a thief stealing his Lincoln MKX from his driveway early Friday. Police say the theft took place around 4:20 a.m. in the 3400 block of Hickory Trail.

The victim told police he was awoken by the sound of his garage door opening and his dog barking. When he looked out the window of his bedroom, he saw his black 2016 Lincoln MKX backing out of the driveway.

Police say the victim was unable to get a view of the suspect before the vehicle fled down 35th Street at a high rate of speed. According to police, the Lincoln had been left unlocked in the driveway with its keys inside. They say it's likely the suspect accidentally pressed the garage door opener on the keyring.

Another vehicle at the residence, a Cadillac station wagon that had been left unlocked, was ransacked. Police say nothing was stolen from the Cadillac.
