Pedestrian Fatally Hit By BNSF Train In Downers Grove: Report
Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL --- A Metra train fatally struck a pedestrian in Downers Grove near Forest Avenue Monday afternoon, causing train travel to be temporarily stopped in both directions. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from Downers Grove Police spokesperson Bill Budds.

According to Budds, a preliminary investigation suggests the person was walking on the train tracks around 1 p.m. when they were hit. The incident caused trains to be delayed for several hours. As of 2:40 p.m. Metra tweeted that both inbound and outbound train travel had resumed at "restricted speed."
Police say the investigation is ongoing and that they are waiting to release more information about the victim.
