Downers Grove Woman Killed When Motorcycle Hits Median on I-290

A man was also killed and a light pole fell into the expressway. Three cars were involved.

A motorcycle crash that killed two people shut down Interstate 290 westbound near the Mannheim Road exit early Sunday morning. The crash involving a motorcycle and three other vehicles took place at 2 a.m. The expressway was shut down for four hours between Mannheim and Cicero in both directions.

The crash involved a Mercedes sedan, two Toyota sedans and a BMW motorcycle. The motorcycle was speeding with a group of other bikers when the cycle struck the median and the driver and passenger were thrown into the westbound lanes. The bike spun out and hit a light pole, which fell into the eastbound lanes, according to a release from State Police.

The people on the motorcycle were killed: 21-year-old Miranda A. Valles, of Downers Grove, and a 41-year-old Crystal Lake man. His identity has not been released pending notification of family.

Saturday Accident on I-355

About three hours earlier, a wrong-way driver on I-355 caused an accident near the Maple Avenue exit to Downers Grove and Lisle, according to State Police. The crash happened at 10:50 p.m. when a car going the wrong way on the interstate struck two other vehicles. The injuries were minor, police said.
