Multiple Cars Burglarized In Downers Grove: Police
Police say many of the victims awoke to find their car doors open.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are investigating a string of car burglaries that took place over the course of a week. According to police, seven car burglaries were reported in Downers Grove between June 15 and June 21. Many of the victims say they had left their cars unlocked overnight and awoke to find a door on the vehicle has been left ajar by the burglar or burglars.
June 15
A car was burglarized in the 7700 block of Knottingham Lane sometime between 10 p.m. on June 15 and 7 a.m. on June 16. The victim told police she woke up to find the passenger side door of her car open. Police say $1 in quarters was missing from the vehicle, which the victim said had been left unlocked. While investigating the scene, police noticed a door was open on the woman's neighbor's vehicle.

Police then approached the neighbor, who told them a pair of sunglasses valued at $200 had been taken from his car.
June 17

Police responded to a report of a car burglary in the 4100 block of Seeley Ave. The victim said the incident took place sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. The victims reportedly went outside to find the rear door of their had been left open.
The suspect(s) ransacked the interior of the car, but nothing was removed, according to police.
June 18
An overnight car burglary was reported in the 4200 block of Belle Aire Lane. The victim told police she believes someone got into her car during the night of June 17. She awoke on June 18 to find the passenger door partially open and part of her middle console damaged and pushed out.
She told police she had left the car unlocked overnight. A vehicle owner's manual and a flashlight were reported missing.
June 19
A resident in the 6600 block of Blackburn told police his car was burglarized sometime between 9 p.m. on June 18 and 6 a.m. on June 19. The victim told police he had left his car unlocked overnight and returned in the morning to find his wallet had been stolen.
June 20
Another car burglary was reported in the 1000 block of Braemoor on June 20. The victim told police the incident likely took place between June 17 and June 18 while his car was parked in his driveway and locked. Police say there were no signs of forced entry, but that multiple items were stolen, including a GPS unit, a Swiss army knife, and a flashlight.
A resident in the 4700 block of Middaugh Ave. reported that he had left his work van unlocked in a driveway between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. on June 20 while he performed electrical work. When he got back to his vehicle, he found one of the doors was partially ajar. He told police a generator valued at $1,000 had been stolen from the work van.
