New Historic Preservation Subcommittee to Meet in August

The first meeting of the Architectural Design Review Board Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Historic Preservation is scheduled for Aug. 5, when members will discuss changes to the Historic Preservation Ordinance.

Seven subcommittee members were appointed to work with the board’s members to increase the number of designated landmark properties and districts.

According to the village, discussions will include:

• the process for landmarking a structure or creating a Historic District
• the regulations for new and existing structures in Historic Districts and
• the regulations for alterations to landmarked structures
• the regulations for the demolition of landmarked structures or existing structures in Historic Districts
• ways to enhance public awareness and understanding of the ordinance
• ways to assist property owners with the application process and consider incentives

The board and subcommittee plan to meet twice a month from August to October. Any proposed ordinance changes or recommendations should be given to the Village Council by Oct. 31.

The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the Historic Preservation meetings, which will be held on the following Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 5101 Walnut Ave, according to the village.
