Night At Firehouse, Silent Parade Planned In Downers Grove
Kids can slide down a fire pole, meet firefighters and learn about fire safety at the Oct. 6 event. A silent parade follows on Oct. 8.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Members of the Downers Grove Fire Department will teach kids about fire safety via games and interactive lessons at Night at the Firehouse Oct. 6 to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. A silent parade will follow on Oct. 8 to pay tribute to civilians and firefighters who died as a result of fires.
Residents are encouraged to illuminate their homes with red lights in support of Fire Prevention Week, a news release said.

Head to firehouse #5 at 6701 Main St. Oct. 6 for the Night at the Firehouse event, where kids can slide down a fire pole, meet village firefighters, play games, watch firefighters perform rappelling demonstrations and learn about fire safety.
The event lasts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Silent Parade
On Oct. 8 at 7:15 p.m., a silent parade will begin in Hinsdale and make its way through Downers Grove along Maple Avenue en route to Lisle to pay tribute to fire victims. Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles will display their flashing lights throughout the parade, but no sirens will be sounded.
The parade will wrap up at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1101 Kimberly Way, Lisle, around 7:45 p.m.
