Metal Piping Stolen From Underside of Car

An approximate 18-inch section of metal piping was stolen from the underside of a car parked in a grocery store parking lot between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The car's owner—a store employee—turned on her car after work and noticed a loud noise coming from underneath. The stolen section of piping led to the car's catalytic converter. The value of the piping was estimated at $100.

Man Charged with Retail Theft

William Maki, 33, 7101 Wirth, Darien, was charged with retail theft after police said he loaded a green adirondack chair priced at $449 in his truck and drove off without paying for it at Wannemakers, 1940 Ogden Ave.

Women Fight in Restaurant Bathroom

Zana Saleh, 25, of 537 Pleasant, Lombard, was charged with battery after police said she fought with another woman in the bathroom of a restaurant on Butterfield Road.

Police Track Teen Who Left Her Name and Address Behind

Kristen Dodd, 18, of 1904 Nottingham Rd., Woodridge was charged with retail theft after police said she stole items from Ultra Foods on 75th Street and returned them to Ultra for a refund. Police said that Dodd was seen on a store security camera on three separate occasions taking items from the cosmetics section of the store, putting the items in her purse and then walking over to the customer service desk and returning them for cash. On the third attempt, the store's manger told Dodd she would have to check with store security before issuing a refund, and Dodd ran out of the store. However, Dodd had written her name and address on numerous refund logs in order to get the refunds, and police went to her house and charged her with retail theft.

THURSDAY, JULY 19

Man Steals $700 in Medication from CVS

A total of $732.11 in over-the-counter medications were stolen from CVS Pharmacy, 400 Ogden Ave., around 6:30 p.m. A man who was seen exiting the store wearing a backpack triggered the security alarm by the exit and ran out of the store and into a waiting car down the street.
