Pop-Up Magazine announces new Spring issue: At Home
To premiere on YouTube Wednesday, May 27th. True stories, original music, and stunning visuals come together.

SAN FRANCISCO— Pop-Up Magazine, the acclaimed live magazine that sells out grand, historic venues across the country, is pleased to announce an all-new event — our first-ever online show — the Spring Issue: At Home. The show brings never-before-told stories to life with intimate, funny, moving performances; stunning video, art, and animation; and an original score. We’re bringing the unique, inventive magic of a Pop-Up Magazine performance to this moment we’re now living through — together and apart.
In place of a national tour, our storytellers and musicians perform from their homes across the country, alongside beautiful illustration, animation, and film, in a creative new split-screen experience, like a cross between a live video and a graphic novel. The Spring Issue: At Home is presented with support from Google and will premiere on YouTube Wednesday, May 27th at 6pm PST / 9pm EST. Watch the trailer and meet the contributors at popupmagazine.com/watch.
“The new At Home Issue is one of the most creative things we’ve ever produced,” said Pop-Up Magazine Editor in Chief Douglas McGray. “We’re trying to capture what feels special about a Pop-Up Magazine show and bring it to you in a whole new way. I wasn’t sure we’d pull it off at first, but honestly… I really love it.”

The Spring Issue stories are timely, surprising, and emotional — a medical student skips residency and becomes a doctor in the midst of a global pandemic; a high school varsity mariachi band competes against 80 other teams to defend their championship title in South Texas; office comedy unfolds inside a giant corporate greeting-card company; legends of the stage and Instagram alike interpret social distancing in one minute of dance; and more.
The Spring Issue: At Home includes a special Google thank you to teachers, with a little surprise from 2020’s National Teacher of the Year. Following the premiere, viewers will also have an opportunity to connect with producers and storytellers in a behind-the-scenes experience via Google Meet.
