Pregnant Woman Found Dead With Stab Wounds During Apartment Fire In Downers Grove: Cops

An arson investigation is underway.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A 30-year-old pregnant woman was found dead with stab wounds as firefighters responded to a blaze in Downers Grove Monday night. Police say a person of interest is in custody, but no charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to an apartment building in the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue around 6 p.m. for a report of a fire. The pregnant woman, whom police say had apparent sharp force trauma, was removed from the building by firefighters and pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person in the home was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Downers Grove Police Department is conducting the investigation with the help of DuPage County's MERIT Task Force, the County's Arson Task Force and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
