Reckless Homicide Charges For Man In Death Of Downers Grove Girl

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Naperville man accused of killing Downers Grove junior Beth Dunlap outside of the school as she crossed the street Tuesday faces an additional charge of reckless homicide. Joseph Kucharski, 51, was charged with reckless homicide Monday in addition to charges of aggravated DUI and reckless driving in the crash that claimed the life of the 17-year-old volleyball player, Daily Herald reports.

Dunlap was left critically injured after the crash, which took place on Main Street near Grant Street just before 11 a.m. Police say Dunlap was in the marked crosswalk and had a walk signal when Kucharski continued southbound into the intersection despite a red light.

Daily Herald reports that Kucharski has previous traffic citations, including driving 49 mph in a 25-mph zone in Naperville in 1993 and driving 74 mph in a 45-mph zone in Naperville in 2012.

DuPage County officials issued a $5 million warrant for Kucharski's arrest Friday. He is set to appear in court again Tuesday.
