The Sheriff’s Office worked closely with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI to successfully identify the remains of Cheyann Klus through dental records last week. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with Chicago Police to investigate the circumstances of her death, but we are grateful to help bring some measure of closure to Klus’ family. Cases like this show the importance of initiatives like the Sheriff’s Office’s Missing Persons Project, and we will continue to try to bring closure and justice to the families of missing individuals.
Klus was last seen at her home in unincorporated Downers Grove on Nov. 27, 2017. Investigators said Klus had traveled to Chicago around Dec. 1 or Dec. 2 that year and had been spotted in the 2100 block of Kilbourn. Her family reported her disappearance to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 12, 2017.
In March of 2018, a massive search for Klus was conducted by police and members of the Missing Persons Network near Mallard Lake Forest Preserve in Bloomingdale.
