Remembering Marge Dunn, 96, Of Downers Grove
Marge Dunn is remembered for her "unwavering faith, kindness, sunny disposition, and strength."

Marge Dunn, 96, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, in Downers Grove, Illinois, surrounded by her family.
Marjorie Ann Haggerty was born on April 22, 1930, to Yvo and Margaret Haggerty in Chicago, Illinois. She joined her older brother, Ed, and sister, Virginia. The family moved
to Downers Grove in 1934, and Marge spent most of her life there. After attending St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School, she graduated from Downers Grove High School in
1948. She worked for a year at Argonne National Laboratory before attending Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in 1953.
Marge was a teacher at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in La Grange when she met Larry Dunn through friends at the parish. Marge and Larry were married on June 30, 1956, at St. Joseph Church and spent more than 50 loving years together until Larry’s death in 2007.
They raised their family in Downers Grove, where Marge was a homemaker, tutor, and substitute teacher until returning to teach full-time at St. Joseph when her youngest child started school.

Family vacations were a big part of those years. Each summer, Marge, Larry, and their family traveled throughout the country, camping in national parks and visiting friends
and relatives along the way.
In 1988, with their children grown, Marge and Larry began a new chapter together. They opened a printing shop in Clarendon Hills and enjoyed many years as active members
of the local business community.
Then came the grandchildren, and Marge and Larry delighted in attending their activities and spending as much time with them as they could. Marge was also very active at St.
Joseph Church, serving on the parish council and as a greeter at Mass. In her later years, many of Marge’s former students would stop and reminisce with her at church
and around town.

After Larry’s death, Marge remained very active with her grandchildren and volunteered with several local organizations. She loved walking two miles a day into her 90s and was a well-known figure in her neighborhood, often sitting on her front porch and greeting neighbors and other walkers as they passed by.
Later, Marge became the unofficial greeter at Oak Trace Retirement Community, saying hello to everyone who passed through the common area. She was well known and loved by the Oak Trace staff, residents, and visitors and felt very much at home there. Her family is especially grateful for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Marge by the Oak Trace staff and the people of Angels Grace Hospice.
Above all, Marge loved her family, who brought her great joy throughout her life. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kindness, sunny disposition, and strength.
In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Larry Dunn; her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Jean Haggerty; and her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Paul Springer.
Marge is survived by her children, Chris (Cathie) Dunn, Jackie (Mark) Stoll, Jeannie (Jim) Geselbracht, and Mary (Bob) Ploen; her 12 grandchildren, Larry, Michael, Maggie, and Jennifer Dunn; Megan, Mark (Josi), and Ryan Stoll; Sam (Samantha Yee) and Ben (Liv Ross) Geselbracht; and Gracie, Erin, and Brendan Ploen; and many nieces and nephews.
