Roskam's Seat Challenged By Downers Grove Clean Energy Advocate
Sean Casten of Downers Grove brings experience as a clean energy consultant and scientist to the table as he challenges Rep. Pete Roskam.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A ninth Democrat has come forward in the hopes of unseating Rep. Peter Roskam (R) from the 6th District position he's held since 2007. Roskam has earned the ire of many of his constituents because he will not hold an in-person town hall, despite repeated demands from Republican residents. Sean Casten (D), who holds masters degrees in engineering management and biochemical engineering, grew up in Downers Grove and has worked as an energy consultant for multiple companies.
Casten's experience positions him well to contend with the anti-climate change views that Roskam holds. As a scientist, Casten prevents a diverse platform that focuses on facts. In a YouTube video, Casten warns that "Donald Trump and his sidekick, Peter Roskam, are ignoring science, but the truth is they're damaging so much more than just the planet."
Casten plans to improve social security, medicare, and women's health, a sharp contrast to both Trump and Roskam. He also vows to "make sure that women have the right to control their own bodies." This gels with the campaign rhetoric that's been so appealing for Democrats in Distrct 6 and creates another ray of hope for people aiming to oust Raskam in 2018.
