S.W.A.T. Team Called After Man Barricades Himself Inside Home, Threatens To Shoot Cops In Downers Grove: Police
A S.W.A.T. team was called to the 4900 block of Northcott Avenue after Robert E. Dankwardt, 57 allegedly barricaded himself in the home.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL ā A S.W.A.T. team was called in to negotiate after a man barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to shoot police during a domestic violence call in the 4900 block of Northcott Avenue in Downers Grove Monday. Law enforcement negotiated for over five hours before taking Robert E. Dankwardt, 57, into custody on charges of battery, criminal damage to property, and assault.
Downers Grove Police arrived at the home at approximately 7:30 p.m. to find Dankwardt uncooperative. He had barricaded himself inside his residence and made multiple threats that he would shoot investigators as they attempted to defuse the situation.
As tensions escalated, the Felony Investigative Assistance S.W.A.T. Teamwas called in for backup. Dankwardt finally complied and exited his home at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday after several hours of negotiation. He is currently being held at the DuPage County Jail until he appears in bond court.
