'Safe Routes to School' Completed In Time for School

Improvements will make biking and walking to school safer for kids.

As teachers, parents and students gear up for a new school year the Village is working to ensure the routes they use to get there are ready and safe. There are four locations where the community has come together to make bicycling and walking to school safer as part of the Safe Routes To School program including:

Intersection improvements at Elmwood-Blodgett and Randall near Whittier SchoolConstruction of a new shared use path at El Sierra SchoolNew sidewalk ramps at the intersection of Seeley and Grant near Pierce Downer SchoolReconstruction of a shared use path at Belle Aire School

Funding for the Safe Routes to School federal grant program is provided through IDOT and administered by the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference. A grant of $190,000 dollars was awarded for these projects with a Village cost share of $21,486 dollars.
