Son Sees Man Trying To Break Into His Downers Grove Home: Police

Police say the man fled from the back of the home and into a car that was waiting out front.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police say a son told his mother he saw a man "pulling on the rear door handle" of their Downers Grove home and trying to get in. The son said the man was wearing all black and had "something covering his face." The incident was reported on April 7 the 4800 block of Pershing Ave., according to a police report.

The victims told police that the son woke up around 1 a.m. to the sound of someone trying to enter through a sliding glass door at the back of the house. Police say the family dog started barking around the same time.

After the son spotted someone outside the home, the family heard a car honking its horn in front of their house in what they described as being "like a warning signal," according to police.
