Spirito! Announces 2018 Service Award Winner Terri Hemmert

Spirito! Singers is proud to announce the 2018 Spirito! Service Award Winner is Terri Hemmert, long time WXRT radio personality and Radio Hall of Famer. The Service Award will be presented at the Spirito! Autumn Voices Gala to be held on November 3rd at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.

Service is an important part of the Spirito! mission. Each year an award is given to an individual who exemplifies a commitment to volunteerism. Terri Hemmert is passionate, dedicated volunteer.

In addition to being a well-known radio personality in Chicago for over 40 years, Terri served on the Board of Directors of the Peace Museum and Facets Multimedia among other not-for-profit groups. She volunteered with the Inner City Teaching Corps and Latin School of Chicago, has served on the advisory board of WRSE-FM (the Elmhurst College student radio station) and volunteered with the AIDS Pastoral Care Network.

Terri also teaches classes on the Roots of Rap, Women in Music, Classical Music’s influence on Rock and Soul, and the History of Rock and Soul. She also works on music education programs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Terri is an active member of her church, sang in the choir for many years and truly appreciates the beauty of choral singing. Best of all, Terri is a fan of Spirito! Singers and has attended many Spirito! concerts.

Founded in 2008 by Artistic Director Molly Lindberg, Spirito! is an auditioned girls’ choral organization with two distinct choirs open to girls/young women throughout the western suburbs of Chicago. The youth choral group instills formal music training beginning in the Ragazze ensemble, which is available for 5th-8th grade girls, and continue with the Bravura group, comprised of 9th-12th grade young women. Additionally, Spirito! is proud to offer a third choir group – Men of Spirito! – an ensemble of men 18 years and older who perform standalone and with the Ragazze and Bravura groups in major concerts and service events. For Spirito!’s members, music is more than an artistic expression and these ensembles provide over two hundred youth and adult singers a way to give back to their communities while improving their talents and musicianship. Spirito! has rehearsal sites in Downers Grove, LaGrange and Elmhurst.
