Suspect Completely Floods Basement Of Home In Downers Grove

When police arrived, the water had almost reached the foundation of the home.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Residents were displaced from their home in Downers Grove after someone used a garden hose to completely flood the basement, submerging the home's water heater and furnace, police say. The incident took place in the 5200 block of Carpenter on Feb. 4.

According to police, sometime between 7 a.m. and 7:15 p.m., a suspect or suspects fed a garden hose attached to the home into the basement, turned the hose on, and left it running.

The owner of the building, which has a few tenants, told police a tenant texted him to report there was no hot water. When the homeowner arrived, he said the stairway to the basement was completely filled with water, police say.
