Thief Pries Open Door, Burglarizes Home In Downers Grove

More than $6,900 in jewelry was reported stolen from the home.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove police are investigating a burglary in which someone used a pry bar to get into a locked residence before stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry and other valuables. The burglary was reported on July 6 in the 900 block of Curtiss Ave.

Police say the victim left their home briefly around 6 p.m. on July 6 and returned just before 7 p.m. to find that someone had used a pry bar to force their way into the home.

Once police arrived at the scene of the burglary, they reported seeing an iPad and a laptop that had not been taken. Police then reported that the victim's bedroom seemed "orderly," but that several items were missing from the premises, according to the victims, including white gold earrings, a gold chain with three diamonds, a gold Ray Weil watch, among other things.

The total estimated loss was $6,950.
