Thief Shatters Window, Steals Briefcase In Downers Grove: Cops

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are investigating an incident in which a briefcase was stolen when a truck was burglarized Tuesday night while parked in a lot. The burglary took place outside of Melting Pot at 1205 Butterfield Rd. Tuesday night.

According to police, the victim went inside Melting Pot around 7 p.m. When the victim got back to their car at 10 p.m., they noticed the front window of the car had been smashed in.

When police got to the scene, the victim told him his briefcase had been stolen from the trunk of the car. He told police that there was a laptop, cash, a wallet, a leather portfolio, and business credit cards inside the briefcase.

Downers Grove police later got a call that the briefcase was found by an Oak Brook Terrace resident in their front yard. When the briefcase was taken by investigators, police say it appears only the computer and cash were missing.
