Tires Slashed, Cars Burglarized In Downers Grove

Several cars were targeted during overnight burglaries in Downers Grove.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove Police have been reporting an increase in incidents of car and burglaries over the past month. This uptick has also been reflected in other surrounding neighborhoods. Recently, a car's tires were slashed and multiple vehicles were broken into overnight in Downers Grove.

A car tire was slashed outside an apartment residence in the 700 block of Maple Ave. The incident took place sometime between 9 p.m. on Nov. 7 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 8, the victim told police. Suspect(s) had cut a 3-inch gash in one of the tire's inside treads.

On Nov. 10, a resident in the 7500 block of Rohrer thwarted four suspects who in an SUV who went into the garage and tried to get into the resident's vehicles. When the owner confronted the suspects, they reportedly fled.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

Nov. 7-8

Three prescription bottles were stolen from a car was burglarized in the 1100 block of Candlewood. The victim told officers the burglary took place between 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 and 5 p.m. on Nov. 8. According to police, the victim's car was left unlocked and in their driveway overnight.

Nov. 10-11

Sometime between 10 p.m. on Nov. 10 and 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, suspect(s) ransacked a car in the 7300 block of Grand Ave. The victim told police that whoever broke into their car left the door ajar and had rifled through the glove compartment, stealing a pair of glasses valued at $100.

Nov. 10-11

Suspect(s) burglarized a car in the 400 block of 74th Ave. sometime between 11 p.m. on Nov. 10 and 6 a.m. on Nov. 11. The vehicle owner told police that their car had been left unlocked in the parking lot overnight and that credit cards, a wallet, and an Apple computer were missing the following day. The total estimated loss was $1,700.

Nov. 4-11

A resident reported seeing a vehicle door left open in the 400 block of 73rd Ave. on Nov. 11 just before 6 a.m. Police met with the owner of the car, who said they may have accidentally left the car unlocked. According to the victim, the burglars took roughly $5 in change.
