Tonight's the Night at the Firehouse

Residents can experience the on-the-job challenges of a Downers Grove firefighter, from automobile extrication to rappelling, during "A Night at the Firehouse," 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight, Oct. 6 at Fire Station 5, 6701 Main St.

The event, which is being held in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week, will also feature rescue techniques, uniforms worn by firefighters for various emergencies, and a dramatic, real-life demonstration of the effectiveness of residential sprinklers.

Residents will also be allowed to use the DGFD's thermal imager to experience how firefighters locate a room's hot spots. Children can try their hand at a real fire hose, climb aboard a fire truck, practice their fire-safety skills and get fire department tatoos.
