Trump’s Tax Plan: Reaction from DuPage County Congressman Bill Foster

Representative Bill Foster criticizes Donald Trump's tax plan as helping the rich "at the expense of hard-working Americans."

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Donald Trump’s tax plan, which intends to make changes to the current tax code, was announced in a briefing that closed with Trump reassuring reporters he would release his own tax returns. Representative Bill Foster (D), who represents Downers Grove and other parts of Congressional District 11, said in a statement that the Trump tax plan “only intends to help the rich expand their bank accounts.”

Foster’s full statement about Trump’s tax plan is as follows:

“While the details are still unclear, we already know President Trump’s tax plan will massively expand the national debt. Our country cannot afford a repeat of the enormous deficits that happened the last time Republicans controlled all three branches of government, when the Bush tax cuts and runaway military spending took the $200 billion surplus inherited from the Clinton Administration and turned it into a $1.5 trillion deficit and the worst economy of our lifetimes. It is also clear that the Trump administration only intends to help the rich expand their bank accounts at the expense of hard-working Americans. Congress should not consider any tax plan from the White House until President Trump releases his tax returns so we know how much he will personally benefit from his tax proposals.”
