Celebrating from the Heart

If you want to see how Valentine's Day is really done, visit an elementary school.

If you've ever been an elementary school room rep, you know that Valentine's parties are the most fun to plan and execute.

They don't involve costumes, as Halloween parties do, and they don't coincide with the most stressful month of a mom's year—December. As long as you throw in a generous amount of red hearts and pink doilies—both of which are in abundance during February—you're free to follow your creative juices wherever they lead.

As this photo gallery attests, Valentine's Day is made to be celebrated with games, crafts and refreshments. And that's just what the students, staff and parents of Pierce Downer Elementary School did on Feb. 14.
