Village Reminds Downers Grove Residents: 'Fireworks Are Illegal'

Did you know that fireworks are illegal in Downers Grove and in Illinois? Firecrackers, bottle rockets, cherry bombs, and the like are prohibited. Although fireworks can easily be purchased legally in nearby states, it is illegal to bring them into Illinois. Fines for illegal fireworks range between $75.00 to $750.00.

Legal firework novelties such as sparklers, fountains and ground spinners, can also be dangerous. Sparklers can reach temperatures of 1,200 to 1,800 degrees, hot enough to cause third-degree burns. In fact, fireworks injuries make up about one quarter of emergency room visits over the July 4th holiday.
