Vote to Help O'Neill win up to $60,000 in Follett Challenge

The Follett Challenge is a national contest that seeks to recognize the best in K-12 innovation.

O’Neill Middle School is competing in a national education contest that awards prizes to the most innovative schools in the country.

The Follett Challenge will award prizes up to $60,000 in academic goods and services.

O’Neill Middle School’s “Conquest of the Realm” video is collecting votes online for a chance to win. Fans can vote for the video once each day until Jan. 30.

The People’s Choice awards, worth $8,000, are based on how many votes applicants get on their videos. A portion, 20 percent, of the grand prize and semi-finalist prizes will be based on viewer votes.

The O’Neill Middle School video highlights its innovative “Conquest of the Realm” library program, and prize money could be used to buy books and e-books to be shared across District 58, according to the District 58 newsletter.

“Conquest of the Realm used creative games and competitions to motivate 80 percent of the student body to voluntarily read more books, write book reviews, create book trailers and more,” according to the newsletter.

The People’s Choice winners and semi-finalists will be selected Feb. 13. The grand prize winner will be announced April 30.
