Wallet Stolen From Panera Bread In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL --- A 69-year-old woman was the victim of an attempted identity theft after a wallet was taken from her purse at Panera Bread on Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove Friday. After the wallet was stolen, police say the suspect(s) made two unsuccessful attempts to use the victim's credit card at an Apple store.

The victim told police she had placed her purse on the back of her chair just before the wallet was taken while she was eating lunch around 12:30 p.m. About an hour later, she reportedly noticed her wallet was missing and went back to Panera to see if anyone had found it.

According to police, the victim received a phone call from Discover to tell her someone had tried to use her card at an Apple store to make a purchase for $5,400 and a purchase for $4,500.

The suspect(s) also stole a TD Ameritrade credit card, a Maryland driver's license, and $22 cash.
