Brian Edwards, 47, got out of his car seconds before the train smashed into it. He has been charged with DUI.
LISLE, IL — A Lisle man has been charged with a DUI after he drove his car onto a Metra platform in Lisle just before 2 a.m. Wednesday. The driver's side of the car was teetering onto the train tracks, but the man escaped just before a train smashed into his vehicle. Police say the man, identified as Brian Edwards, 47, was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.
According to police, Edwards drove onto the platform and then backed up, causing his wheels to fall over the edge of the platform. In the surveillance video, you can see Edwards getting out of the car as the train light gets closer and closer. He gets onto the platform seconds before the oncoming train collides with his car.
Edwards escaped unharmed, but his car and the platform were badly damaged. Police charged Edwards with a DUI and cited him with trespass to railroad right of way, driving on a sidewalk, and expired registration. He is set to appear in court on Feb. 28.
