Woodridge Hockey Goalie Named Player of the Week by Youth1.com

Luke Greenwood, a 14-year-old hockey goalie with Chicago Mission AAA Youth Hockey Club based in Woodridge, has been named Youth1.com’s latest Player of the Week. As one of the first national niche resources for youth sports in grades six through eight, Youth1 selects one athlete each week who stands out based on online nomination submissions. Criteria include most recent athletic accomplishments, greatest strengths, summer training plans, people who are his/her greatest inspiration and future athletic/academic goals.

The 5’ 8”, 145-lb Greenwood earned his latest honor as the starting goalie for and a key contributor to the Mission’s 2014-2015 season record of 50-15-5. He also was instrumental in their HPHL Championship title, Blackhawk Cup Illinois State Championship title and appearance in the finals of the Silver Stick Invitational tournament.

“The Mission were among the nation’s top five teams at the 2001 age level,” said Will Newman, Youth1’s sports director of hockey, who noted Greenwood’s past achievements also include two Bauer Invite Championships, two Illinois State AAA Championships, three HPHL Academic Excellence Awards and being named to the 2014 Harvard Combine Camp for the 2001 birth year teams.
